Butte Electric Cooperative values leadership development in our service territory by helping our community youth obtain a higher education. This scholarship program is designed to recognize and encourage the achievements of the members and their dependent children.
Scholarship Programs
Butte Electric Cooperative offers scholarship programs to support local students in pursuing higher education. These scholarships are available to eligible students whose families are cooperative members. Awards are based on academic achievement, community involvement, and leadership qualities.
Butte Electric Cooperative will award a $1000 scholarship to a student currently enrolled in or planning to attend a qualified program below:
- Electrical Utilities & Substation Technology
- Power Line Construction & Maintenance
- Utilities Technology-Power Line
- Electrical Construction & Maintenance
- Information Systems Technology
- Energy Operations
- Telecommunications
Additionally, the student will receive a 1000-hour paid apprenticeship with Butte Electric Cooperative.

Butte Electric Cooperative (BEC) awards two (2) $1,250 and three (3) $1,000 annual scholarships to students who plan to pursue a degree or certification from an accredited university, college, junior college, technical school, or other post-secondary educational institution. Applications are judged primarily based on work experience, community involvement, future plans, a letter of recommendation, and a written essay. The Scholarship Committee that determines recipients includes three BEC Board Members and three BEC employees.

Butte Electric Cooperative will award one (1) $1,000 scholarship and two (2) $500 scholarships at the 2025 Annual Meeting. The scholarship recipients will be drawn at random from all eligible applicants. This unique scholarship opportunity gives all eligible applicants an equal chance of winning. The winner will be given a check written to the college or school of the winner’s choice.
Application Deadline: CLOSED
Previous winners of a Butte Electric Scholarship are not eligible to apply again for any scholarship listed above.
