A. A “high voltage” power line is defined as a power line that transmits voltage in excess of 750 volts between conductors or between any single conductor and the ground.

B. This policy is broadly inclusive of all parties who may need to work in close proximity to “high voltage” power lines.

C. If a party needs to work within close proximity of a “high voltage” power line owned by the Cooperative, they must:

1. Provide, at a minimum, 48 hours advance notice of their intended activity.  The cooperative, depending on circumstances, may require a longer advanced notice period.  Notice should include name, address, phone number, e-mail, exact location of project, a description of the project, a description of what the Cooperative will need to do, and any other information that the Cooperative may require.
2. Conduct a planning meeting with the Cooperative to establish timelines, process, and procedures for completing any tasks necessary to provide for the work to be done in a safe and efficient manner.
3. The Cooperative will require a $250.00 deposit prior to any work done by the Cooperative.  Actual costs incurred will be billed upon the completion of any work completed by the Cooperative.  Actual cost incurred will include, but not be limited to, wages, travel, material, equipment, and any other expenses incurred by the Cooperative while completing the job.
4. Steps 1 through 3 above must be completed prior to the Cooperative completing any work.
5. Cooperative crew members’ work will be limited only to tasks necessary to complete the Cooperative’s portion of the project.

D. The cooperative shall communicate the Proximity Policy as follows:

1. Annually in the Butte Electric Cooperative Connections publication.
2. Member - Owner’s Manuel.
3. Contractor’s Guide.
4. Periodically through other communications avenues.
